SURFACE TENSION
Created by Raquel Weinberg and Kimberly Jao
Compiling photographs of graffiti across New York and their transcriptions, Surface Tension dives into a medium defined by dichotomies: Graffiti is at once solitary and collaborative; private and public; anonymous yet distinct. Readers can place each image with the help of a loose leaf index that contains hidden symbols and taxonomy to help identify the date and location of each image + a bookmark.
36 pages, saddle stitched, and printed on riso
(light teal, light lime, fluorescent pink, bubblegum, and brown)
First edition of 60

Drawing on experience in exhibition support, archival research,
and artist-centered programming, Raquel Weinberg developed
Outside the Frame™ as a public art initiative that reimagines how
photography can be encountered beyond traditional institutional
settings. Through temporary installations in urban space, the project
seeks to create new connections between art, place, and public experience.
This project is currently in the works, more to come soon!
